My skin may not be perfect but I have a consistent routine that helps keep my skin in check. I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to navigate through so many skincare hacks, tips, products etc. I’m finally at a point where I’m able to maintain a healthy skin.
skincare tips that ARE benficial for your skin
Leave Your Skin Alone
When it comes to taking care of the skin, one of the things that’s overlooked is leaving it alone. My skincare journey has been filled with trying out so many different routines, trends and products.
The simple key to having a good consistent skincare routine; is not changing it frequently. I found that being persistent and having a plain routine is way more effective than having a rigorous routine and using many products at the same time.
Washing My face Only At Night
Prioritizing double cleansing my face only at night has been the best decision I’ve made for my skin. I’ve been doing this for over a year now and there’s definitely been a considerable difference. Most of the time I’m putting on expensive skincare products that help repair my skin overnight.
Instead of cleansing my face again in the morning, I make sure to double cleanse my face at night before putting on my evening products.
Cleansing my face in the morning dried out my skin so instead I use micellar water or spray rose water on my face; then carry on with my normal morning skincare routine.
SPF
Sunscreen is always an essential regardless of what skin tone or season. It protects your skin from UV rays but also helps prevent hyperpigmentation; especially if you’re using strong strength skincare products such as retinoids/retinols. It helps to protect new skin cells and preserves the benefits of the product
Changing Pillowcase Often
It is important to observe you areas on your face that are prone to acne. My breakouts only happen on my cheeks, and my chin on occasion due to hormone imbalance from my menstrual cycle and I rarely get spots on my T Zone.
I decided to start changing my pillow cases out more frequently that being once every week, and it has contributed to less breakouts.
Morning/ Evening Product
When buying skincare products before applying them make sure you do your research on what products are preferably good to use in the mornings and evenings. Although that might be a slight change it makes a huge difference.
Some products are more sensitive and less effective when exposed to UV rays from the sun.
Overall consistency is key, once you find a routine and products that work for your skin don’t neglect it because i.e. you find a new skin care trend on TikTok. difference.
