The Tiny Habits That Helped My Anxiety Without Therapy (For Now)

Let me start by saying I truly believe that everyone needs therapy. Whether you consider yourself “normal” according to society standards or not. But I get it, therapy isn’t accessible to everyone. It can feel like another thing to do on top of life struggles. It’s also expensive. Here’s some small but effective habits that helped combat my anxiety without therapy.

The Tiny Habits That Helped My Anxiety

L-Theanine In the Morning

I’m a caffeine fiend, I need coffee or tea to function in the morning. If you struggle with anxiety you’re familiar with the jitters caffeine brings. I keep a stash of green tea and black tea because L-theanine is found in them. L- theanine and caffeine are an amazing pair! On the days I want to drink coffee I take a L-theanine supplement. It gives me a morning boost without the jitters, calms my mind and encourages me to focus.

Increase Water Intake Throughout the Day

It sounds obvious but water is a natural cleanse. The benefits are so many you could write a book. Throughout the day, I Remind myself to drink as much water. It feels great knowing I’m taking the right steps to help my body. Even if it means more bathroom breaks.

Putting Phone on Do not Disturb

Turning off notification on your phone is an underrated feeling . Even if it’s for a couple hours, it can have a huge difference on your nerves throughout the day. On chaotic days, It can be overwhelming throughout the day seeing messages, emails, calls.

Going Outside With No purpose

Go outside with no intentions to do anything. Go to your garden, patio or simply just step outside with no need to run errands or shop stop. Step outside to absorb your surroundings and vitamin D. Or look at he moon and stars at night. Calm your mind with no distractions, it helps bring you back to the present.

Write Down One Thing You Did Right Daily

Write down something you did right. It can be something as simple as “I drank a good amount of water today.” Or “I stayed calm in an overwhelming situation.” It’s not a journal entry just something to help you redirect your thoughts into something positive.

These Habits are not a “fix.” Instead, they are a way to ground yourself. They allow you to take control of my anxiety without it feeling like a draining task. If therapy is not an option for you right now, that’s okay. Everyone deserves to feel a sense of calm inside and the tiniest habits can help make anxiety manageable.
