When Sadness Knocks, Let It In: Embracing Your Low Moments

Some days sadness does not need to solved, it just needs to be felt. I’ve learned that it’s okay to not always rush to fixing my sadness. I allow myself to sit with my sadness and embrace it. Here’s why that is the kindest thing we can do for ourselves and why.

Embracing Your Low Moments

Stop Explaining It Away

You don’t always have to justify or find a reason as to why you’re feeling low. It doesn’t always have to make sense. It also doesn’t always have to make sense to others either.
Why its good: It reminds you that emotions don’t need to earned without a valid reason, you’re allowed off days.

Slow Down Your Body

Give yourself a mental health day, succumb to your emotions. If your mind or body wants a day off, do exactly that. Don’t force yourself into high energy or fake productivity. Take a warm shower, find your comfiest blanket, rest, drink some tea, sit and enjoy your favorite movie. Do your “laziest fun thing” you like to do.
Why its good: Sadness is less overwhelming when you listen to your mind and body, and not fight against it.

Don’t Force a Smile

You do not owe anyone a bright smile when you feel dark inside. Let your expression match your mood. You can express your feelings just by saying “it’s simply not your day” without having to explain much.
Why it’s good: Pretending to be okay never is good, it invites more emotions like anger and frustration.

Write With No Edits

Simply get a notebook or your phone and just write. It doesn’t have to be perfect, no grammar or spelling corrections. Write down exactly how your feeling and don’t reread it. It’s a way of releasing tension.
Why Its Good: You’re not bottling it in, you’re letting your emotion out without having to dive behind it.

Letting sadness sit deepens your self-awareness. It makes room for healing. It teaches you to handle sadness without falling apart. It helps you practice how to deal with heavy emotions when you allow yourself to feel.
