Starting Pilates As a Beginner: My Honest Week 1 Review

Let me start by saying this. I am not a workout girlie. I always look for the simplest ways to stay fit. I’ve always loved the ten, twenty minute home workouts. But lately, I’ve been craving more. I want to work on my posture and flexibility. I am also looking for a new hobby that caters to my self-care journey.

Why I Decided to Try Pilates

I fell down the Pilates rabbit hole on Tiktok. They talk about how Pilates helps give you a long, lean, sculpted look. Most importantly it’s a way of feeling connecting with your body. You don’t have to go as hard, it’s a workout about intention over intensity. It lets you be gentle to your body while also effectively working on your body and mind. I decided to give it a shot.

The App I Chose: BetterMe

I joined BetterMe it’s an app that caters to Pilates beginners, helping you to set personal goals. It lets you set your body goals and sets a plan. Making the beginning process very effortless.

My Current Pilates Work Out Plan

I’ve started with the wall Pilates. It targets the muscles, tones them while working on my posture, which is a high priority. It is also apartment friendly and equipment free.

Day 1-2 felt like a breeze. I started with 16 minute workouts everyday, starting off slow. Day three did challenge me. If you feel like Pilates will not help you get the work done…You were wrong! Slow movements are way more intense than they look.

What I Learned In a Week:…

Slower Doesn’t mean Easier.

The slow controlled movements feel great on the muscles. At the same time, they are intense. You feel your body working.

It helps you feel your body

There are some places I didn’t know needed stretching until I started Pilates. It helped target the muscles I couldn’t reach, especially on my back and shoulders.

Breathe..

Breathing is important. Luckily throughout your workout with BetterMe, it reminds you to breathe as you follow along. It teaches you to engage with your core, especially in breathing.

What I Loved Most..

  • It felt doable. No equipment, no pressure, just me and my mat.
  • I felt lighter and more aligned after each session.
  • It’s helping me build trust with my body again, one slow rep at a time

I will be continuing with my Pilates journey. I love that I found a gentle way of self care. It helps keep my body fit. It aligns with my current goals and I’m excited to reap the benefits I heard so much about!
